Aoife Marie Sheridan is the Author of the Saskia Trilogy: Eden Forest (Part one) City of Secrets (Part Two) The Rise of the Queen (Part Three).
Aoife had a passion for writing poetry or in her eyes her journal entries. It was something she did throughout her teens and into her twenties. Aoife won first place for two of her poems and had them published at a young age of just nineteen. Realizing she needed to get a real job (What writing isn't) she studied accountancy and qualified working in that field for many years, until her passion for reading returned and she found Maria V Snyder. Poison study one of her favorite books has been read and re-read countless times.
Aoife's first book Eden Forest (Part one of the Saskia Trilogy) came to be after a dream of a man and woman on a black horse jumping through a wall of fire and the idea of Saskia was born. Now with her first novel published and taking first place for Eden Forest with Writers Got Talent 2013, Aoife continues to write tales of fantasy and is currently working on her third book for the Saskia Trilogy amongst other new works. And now - Me and my latest project. Chances are you're reading this post on my blog and so, I invite you to explore my website. Trust me, that's the best way to get to know my writing style. I'll start straight away with the Q & A about my work-in-progress, LOVE ME DO. Wish I had a cover made to post here but there is Pinterest :)
What is the name of your character? Is she fictional or a historic person?
Meet Sophie Darvesh. She was created and lives in the pages of my newest, to be published, chick lit. She is the sort of girl many of my friends will recognize as someone they knew or were. Quite a few of her experiences, as she goes through her life in the book, are based upon real experiences - either mine or of people I have known. Hence, it is safe to say that Sophie is very real.
When and where is the story set?
The story is set partly in Karachi, Pakistan's largest metropolis, and partly in rural Pakistan. The story timeline is set in the present or contemporary times.
What should we know about her?
Sophie lives with her maternal uncle and his family who adopted her after her father died in a car crash, her mother remarried a landlord, and moved to his rural estate. She is a business graduate interning at a multinational bank. An independent thinker and much loved by those close to her, she has the courage to stand up for her beliefs and values. She isn't an alien to the society and culture around her; in fact, she embraces it along with all its faults. But she cannot be party to those faults and the way to improve upon them is not through aggression but understanding and compassion.
The book is predominantly a romantic comedy with strong cultural overtones. Sophie is a rebel at heart but her mode of rebellion is mature, seeking respect while giving it, too.
What is the main conflict? What messes up her life?
Zaed, Sophie's American-born friend, kneels at a party to retrieve a glittering ring from the floor. Before anyone can comment, Natasha, Sophie's cousin, is shrieking 'yes, yes, I accept' to a bewildered Zaed. It's all a cosmic mistake, but things get out of hand rapidly as Zaed's father, an old friend of Natasha's father, bribes Zaed to accept Natasha's expectations and wed her. But then, Zaed and Sophie fall in love. And the huge, elaborate wedding between Zaed and Natasha, a wedding that will join two powerful families, is next week.
You don't just back out at the alter. Not in Pakistan…
What is the personal goal of the character?
To choose her way while upholding the values she was brought up with, and that she herself cherishes.
Is there a working title for this novel, and can we read more about it?
The title is LOVE ME DO. You may read the first chapter of the book here.
When can we expect the book to be published?
The manuscript is complete. I’m working on the cover and as soon as that’s done, I plan to publish it on Smashwords , Apple and Amazon.
My invitee to this character blog is Shamila Ghyas Ahmed, blogger and my cowriter for the Aoife & Demon trilogy. Keep your eyes peeled for her character blog. It'll be fun.
