What was this heinous crime, you ask? Let me show you:
“I’ll tear her limb from limb!” the tweets screeched maniacally. “Real women have curves!”
Real women also have brains. I think.
But I agree. Thin figures are utterly unnatural. All those women whose bodies fit into a size 0 - 4 (or anything you can’t fit into) without being tucked, trimmed, chopped, sucked or lifted are demon spawn. My friends have called me Demon before but the title never held more meaning until today. I've birthed four kids and I’m still petite. Unnatural! I eat carbs. Sinful! And I exercise. Evil!
But this goes deeper than just a mannequin. We also have to think about the teen shoppers - the impressionable, awkward, fickle, clueless, scatterbrained little things because - you know - mannequins! I mean WHAT message are we sending to them by dressing up a diet-ridden plastic doll in hip clothes? Obviously, they’ll have the urge to compete with it. I mean we all know for a fact that fashion stores are primarily responsible for boosting self-worth in young women because that’s what this billion dollar industry is all about - inner beauty.
I totally get the drift! I wanted to be just like my Barbie doll, too! Then, I turned five. Also, unfortunately, I had a severe automated choose-right-from-wrong-and-sane-from-insane system called My Mother. She’d weirdly hammered it into my head that I was a real girl and not a puppet so I need not take inspiration from one either. Hence, when I shopped, I picked an outfit based on how it looked on me, not how it looked on a man-made mass produced store dummy.
Don't get me wrong. I have no sympathy for mannequins. Burn them all, I say, especially the one with ribs on. They’re ugly. However, I will ask this - what's with the skinny-shaming? What’s with the attitude as if skinny isn't a real body type or hailing plus size mannequins as reflecting a natural size.
Thin and skinny women, like me, are real, natural, healthy, beautiful and human. I will not apologize for the way I look. And those are just lifeless mannequins...get over it and buy what suits you :)
